Volunteering

Interested in the diverse stories and lived experiences that make up Toronto’s heritage? Looking to get outside, meet new people, and get involved in your community? Volunteer with us! Our team is supported by many dedicated volunteers who generously contribute numerous hours of service every year.
As a Heritage Toronto volunteer you will meet new people, inspire others to learn about their community, gain valuable experience with running in-person public programs, and share in discovering Toronto’s heritage.
And you’ll make a big difference! As a volunteer-led and volunteer-dependent charity, Heritage Toronto’s volunteers are crucial to our ability to run our public programs and events.
Roles vary from research and administrative support, to assisting with plaque unveilings, but most of our volunteers support our in-person walking tours and special events from June to October, and assist with our annual Heritage Toronto Awards in October.
Community program assistants (CPAs): provide logistical support (check-in, audio equipment, etc.), and help participants find additional information on our programming.
Tour leaders: deliver engaging walking tours throughout the city from June to October.
Photographers: capture images of events held throughout the year. Photographs will be used by Heritage Toronto for marketing, programming and fundraising efforts, allowing you to showcase your skills and build your portfolio.
Heritage Toronto holds its an annual volunteer recruitment every year in February, with training taking place in April/May. While our annual recruitment forms the bulk of our volunteer force, there are opportunities to assist with our special event programming throughout the year. Check back frequently so you don’t miss any opportunities. To stay informed, we recommend you also sign up for our e-newsletter. You can do so at the bottom of our home page.
Our tour program offers different experiences to suit your needs. We have digital tours you can take whenever you like, online live events, and our traditional in-person tours.
