Join us on October 1 for a free event celebrating East Asian heritage in North York.

Tsukimi (Japanese), Chuseok (Korean), and the Mid-Autumn Festival (Chinese) are traditional East Asian festivals celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. Discover the traditions and cuisines associated with these East Asian holidays through food demonstrations and family-friendly activities. Hear community recipe stories and learn about North York’s East Asian food heritage.

Time: Sunday, October 1, 2 pm-6 pm

2 pm: Opening Remarks and Festival Activities Open to Participants

Our registration table is located in the Atrium of North York Centre. Please have your e-ticket ready or use the name of the registrant to check-in. Upon check-in, you will receive a “Fill Your Udon Bowl” activity card. Complete our festival activities and earn stamps for a chance to win a udon dinner at North York’s MeNami Udon and Sake Bar!

3:30 pm: Matcha Demonstration with Daigyo Cafe

Join North York’s Daigyo Cafe to learn about traditional Japanese matcha as well as the Cafe’s innovative way of creating matcha products for modern tastes. Space is limited to 200 participants due to venue size, first come first serve.

4:30 pm: Share the Same Moon Panel Discussion

Heritage Toronto’“s North York Recipes for Healing” is an ongoing project that encourages the local East Asian community to rediscover their connection with North York through food experiences. During this panel, North York community members will discuss some meaningful recipes and how these dishes have shaped their connection to the neighbourhood. Discover the diversity of Chinese cuisine right here in North York!

5:30 pm: Songpyeon Demonstration by Luna Bakery

North York’s Luna Bakery will demonstrate the tradition of making Songpyeon, a traditional Korean rice cake dessert often enjoyed during the Chuseok celebration. Space is limited to 200 participants due to venue size, first come first serve.
